Anti-Bullying Policies at Florida School for the Deaf

VIDEO: (Captioned) - Florida School for the Deaf and Blind takes anti-bullying stand.

Firstcoastnews.com: ST. JOHNS COUNTY, FL - Since the implementation of the Jeffrey Johnston "Stand up for All Students" Act, which was passed in 2008, all schools in the state are required to have anti-bullying policies in place.

The Florida School for the Deaf and Blind in St. Augustine is just one district working to eliminate bullying. Students from elementary through high school are learning about the importance of being respectful, responsible and cooperative.

"She was teasing me like 'I didn't know the words, I didn't know the English language," said student Julia Kadzis.

"In my last school, I had no friends. No one would talk to me really," explains freshman Gracie Delong.

"I've had lots of experiences with bullying here and in the world, and I've tolerated it," said senior D.J. Snell.

Students at FSDB recall their own personal experiences with bullying. "They kept bullying me because I'm a Deaf person," Snell said.

"No one would talk to me really, no one would sit next to me at the lunch table," said Delong. "And the same group of girls would bully me because they didn't think I could see certain things." ...READ MORE: http://www.firstcoastnews.com/news/local/article/302077/3/FSDB-takes-anti-bullying-stand

"Hello, I've decided to tell you about my never ending story," the black and white video begins. Todd can only be seen from her nose down for most of the video, occasionally moving around so that her face is visible. She silently tells her story through a series of white cards with black marker writing on them.

She describes using webcam chats to meet and talk to new people online as a seventh grade student. She said that people told her she was "stunning, beautiful, perfect" and a man pressured her to flash her chest. One year later, she did... I'm struggling to stay in this world, because everything just touches me so deeply. I'm not doing this for attention. I'm doing this to be an inspiration and to show that I can be strong. I did things to myself to make pain go away, because I'd rather hurt myself then someone else. Haters are haters but please don't hate, although im sure I'll get them. I hope I can show you guys that everyone has a story, and everyones future will be bright one day, you just gotta pull through. I'm still here aren't I ?

The Deaf community finds disburbing and uncomfortable the words 'DEAF MILITANTS' commencement speech ideas from the Z|CSDVRS company which is qualified for the federal funds from the Federal Communications Commission (http://www.fcc.gov/) to provide video relay interpreting services is a form of Telecommunications Relay Service (TRS) for the Deaf people. However, Numerous of deaf people finds digusting facts about Z|CSDVRS by calling certain deaf people 'Deaf Militants' by Julian Moiwai, Coordinator of Social Media, Z|CSDVRS, LCC, is not acceptable, not by FCC. We need to report to FCC that the monies sent to Z|CSDVRS are used to appropriate a staff to promote hate speech within the deaf community. Read below:

"Good evening, Z employees and associates:

Greetings from Louisville, Kentucky! We have been busy engaging ourselves with the 2012 National Association of the Deaf Conference goers all week. However, it is not slowing us down! You might be aware of the NAD Presidential elections. Chris Wagner -- our Senior Vice President of Business Operations and Marketing -- has been selected to serve as the NAD's president. I would like to ask you to do us a favor. ZVRS is currently being bombarded on social media by Sheri supporters or so-called "Deaf militiants." Please do not participate in any means of communication by putting gas into this flame. The Z|CSDVRS, LLC."that FCC will investigate such a hate speech and find out why Deaf Militants is an 'intergenerative' hate speech. That just fits the federal Hate Crime Statistics Act (HCSA). Why? It is a federal approach. HCSA requires the Justice department (DOJ) to acquire data on crimes which "manifest prejudice based on race, religion, sexual orientation, or ethnicity.' FCC will be required to refer your letter to DOJ. See below:

You have to report and file the complaint Nature of commendation, complaint or concern. Dear Sir:

I, the undersigned, request that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) investigates an apparently slanderous email written and distributed by Julian Moiwai, the Social Media Coordinator of Z|Communication Service for the Deaf Video Relay Services (Z|CSDVRS), to his employees and contractors. The Z|CSDVRS is federally funded for the provision of Video Relay Services (VRS) that is governed by the rules adopted by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) (47 C.F.R. 65.601 et. seq.) pursuant to the FCC's authority under Section 225 of the Communications Act of 1934, as amended, 47 U.S.C. 225. Moiwai's statement that "ZVRS is currently being bombarded on social media by Sheri [Farinha] supporters or so-called "Deaf militiants (sic)," begs for an official reprimand.

I am not very comfortable with the fact that such federally funded agencies like the Z and CSD played politics during the presidential election in the National Association of the Deaf (NAD) Conference last week. The Z|CSDVRS's Vice President Chris Wagner won the NAD presidential election. I ask that the FCC stops meddling in any consumer organization by federally funded agencies.

Sincerely,

A Heart Touching Story Of A Deaf Girl

Video: "If You Really Knew Me" story in captioned.

A heart touching story of a Deaf girl. her story, her speaking, her heart, poured out. If you are Deaf, hearing impaired, or just don't understand, here is what she said.

I was born with a hearing impairment. I was Deaf completly till the age of 6 because my parents got me hearing devices. But since I first stepped in elementary school, there was never a day someone would push me down, call me names, not talk to me, and mostly, never a day that my own school teacher would respect me.

I was stupid, and I was dumb. I would get best up at school because when I say "what, I can't hear you.." they would take that as sarcasm. I got referrals, suspensions, and got kicked out of school for things i haven't done. I was accused of "smoking in the bathroom" in my 4th grade year. I was "accused of beating up 3 girls in the back of school" when I didn't even know how to fight, and in field trips the principal was always picking me up and taking me to detention because I would get into fights, but they would pick up the ones who fought with me.

I was always in trouble for standing for myself. My own principal abused me, and even had me hold back a year in school for no reason whatsoever, almost fired my mom from her job and I left my last day of school with a concussion and four stab wounds on my back from those tacks that pin papers with on the wall because of this girl that would always fight me. I only had 1 friend in those years. but she was worse than me, she commit suicide at the age of thirteen I was eleven, I call the cops on it cause I had to watch her die.

Video by Aissixx

Sad thing is I couldn't even attend the funeral, the parents had her buried in Arizona. I became suicidal, cut, drank smoked. I joined martial arts later. and I'm still in martial arts now to this day.

In 6th grade, I started having friends. People knew not to mess with me cause all this made me stronger. and I always had to get in a fight. But I was so happy when I didn't lose my first real fight that gained me full respect.

I was wondered though, why people are so cruel still. Especially when someone has a disability they have to live with there whole life, and they laugh about it. Actions may be stronger than words, but no one said words didn't hurt as well. I'm still hurt though. because its been since 6th grade that no ones bothered me until like two weeks ago, I cried my eyes out and just broke down, because this girl in my class would say "I m surprised you can hear the school bell." with a smirk.

If only i could put all those people in my shoes, and show them what its like to be like this, alone, rejected, hurt to judge what you don't understand. This is why I decide to give hugs. because in those times, nobody was there to give me one. No one deserves to live my life, a life without anyone beside them. I Love you guys, I promise. Guys,

If you lived with a disability, a bad habit, a different sexual orientation, or an impairment, and you blame it for all your problems, and what you've been through in your past, DON'T. Thank god for it. why?

It makes you stronger than anyone else that consider thereselves "normal", and you being the "Abnormal, weird, strange" person. It makes you more confident than others, and more tougher through out life. Don't reflect the pain you went through on others, turn that pain into something greater, and give something to others, that you never had before like friendship, love, HUGS kisses.

trust me, you will feel so much better. Published on 19 May 2012 by Aissixx

Is Alexander Graham Bell school recommendation for the hearing-impaired children?

Alexander Graham Bell School is NOT recommended for the Deaf/HoH children, because of Alexander Graham Bell is the Father of Audism! What is Audism? Find more info: Audism. The Deaf community believed he should attend to the school for the Deaf or have a better school service with sign language interpreters instead AG Bell school. He seems to have trouble with speaking by verbally. We don't understand why his mother didn't think about taking him to Deaf school. We highly recommend that he should learn sign language for better communication.

The hearing parents sometimes barrier communication with hearing-impaired children like it is lack of communication, abuse, and barrier. The hearing-impaired are mostly frustration, angry, temper and crying with their hearing parents. Including oral school for the Deaf, also barrier and bullying the hearing-impaired children with the communication. Unfortunately, hearing parents misuse their hearing-impaired children in the mental institutions like as AG Bell Schools for wrong purpose. They expect that the hearing-impaired children may be brainwashed. Although physical abuse is prohibited but still, this term brings back these memories that many are scarred with the term oralism. As seen on video in ASL: Dear AG Bell

AG Bell has been pushing such as forced to the hearing-impaired children for oral and cochlear implants. Even AG Bell uses Doctors and Audiologists to put cochlear implants on hearing-impaired and teaching them how to speak by Oral Methods. The general of communities discovered many lies about Alexander Graham Bell's life to destroy Deaf culture because of oralism movement.

What is oralism movement? Oralism is way different from spoken English. Oralism tends to be the only approach and it bans from ASL. Spoken English is not against for one to know both languages since birth. It has no biased meaning - it is just a language. Signed English doesn't ban a hearing-impaired child from using ASL nor force those who cannot hear enough to use it. Some people who think the world of oralism are ignorant. Using the word, oralism, still did not change to a positive concept just we would never change the concept of slavery.

Would we want to still practice slavery? No! Unfortuantely, it is still happening in some parts of the world. Slavery will always be negative just like oralism therefore there is no way to change the meaning. They should now that there were horrors associated to oralism. Although it is history but today the practice, the principle and the philosophy still discriminate against ASL.

The term should be changed to oracy since it involves the use of switching to both languages where they have the options to use, spoken or signed where there is a more flexibility and compatibility. The hearing parents of the Deaf children will LIKLEY to be a victim. The hearing parents really need a wake-up call and stop abuse to the hearing-impaired children which are victims of abused from the AG Bell schools as seen on youtube.

'What It's Like To Be Deaf ?'

Video: 'What It's Like To Be Deaf' in American Sign Language version.

This is Katie describing what it's like to be Deaf. For those who cannot understand her sign language, this is what she is saying...

'What It's Like To Be Deaf ?'

People have asked me. I have no problem answering or explaining how I lost my hearing. But to explain what it's like to be Deaf? It's very Simple: I can't hear. No, wait... it is much more than that. It is similar to a goldfish in a bowl, always observing things going on. People talking all the... times. It is like a man on his own island among foreigners.

Isolation is no stranger to me. Relatives and friends say hi and bye, but I sit among them for 5 hours trying to be involved. Natural curiosity perks up upon seeing great laughter, crying, anger.

Inquiring only to meet with a "Never mind", "Nothing" or "Oh, it's not important". Seeing them laugh and look at me makes me think they are making fun of my disability when they weren't.

Video by KatieFigurestar98

Getting a summarized statement of the whole day. I'm supposed to smile to show happiness. Little do they know how truly miserable I am trying to understand. People are in control of language usage, I am at loss and really uncomfortable there. Always feeling like an outsider among the hearing people, Even though it was not their intention. They are always assuming that I am part of them by my physical presence, but not understanding the importance of communication. I must make the choices constantly, no wonder why I choose Deaf friends? I get such great pleasure at the Deaf events, before I even realize it, it is already the end of the day. Our language is common, we understand each other clearly.

Being at loss of control of the environment which is communication we rely on such technology such as smartphones to communicate with hearing people, and yet some people panic and retreat to avoid Deaf people like the plague.

But again we Deaf people are still human beings With dreams, desires, and goals sometimes we just feel the need to Belong, just like everyone else. That's how I am Deaf.

When Haters Gonna Still Hate, Stop The Deaf Bullies

When haters gonna still hate, stop the Deaf bullies.

The Vlogsphere/Blogsphere are so obsessed with Sloan Churman's inspiring video where Sarah Churman hears her own voice for the first time after a lifetime of being Deaf as seen on 29 Year Old Deaf Woman Hears Herself For The First Time which still debating on the internet.

The several people most assumed and accusations that hearing impaired that did the comments under Sloan Churman's inspiring video for instance, The Damage Has Been Done! which is absolutely no proven by hearing impaired people that did this. What. 50K comments, majority of hearing impaired people attacking?.. 50K? oh puh-eeease.

Some time passed before I found an excellent example of the earlier point as similar of the videos.

An amazing and touching video of a young woman turning on her passionate message on Youtube whereas a simple, "Stop The Deaf Bullies Video" posted by Emily Darcy which she is implantable hearing as Sarah Churman would have been both sufficient and polite, many people chose to turn the video's comment section into their own personal political platform. Several of them did it in the most tactless way possible, offering up flat out insults and not even constructive points. Many people even attacked the beliefs of the videos, therefore, there's no difference between these the videos.

But then the sad thing is that you'll get your usual haters in the comment section as always by a bunch of idiots and then you have a bunch of ignorant like naysayers, haters and extremist people who can't even understand that Deaf/HH people can speaks out how they feels. You'll have to spend some time to find and read those nasty comments as you can seen on: Stop The Deaf Bullies -All Comments
