VIDEO: Pope resigns without apologizing to Deaf victims from St. John’s school.
SNAP: MILWAUKEE (WITI) – The spiritual leader of 1.2 billion Catholics, Pope Benedict XVI, surprised the world Monday, February 11th by saying he will resign at the end of the month “because of advanced age.” It’s the first time a pope has stepped down in nearly 600 years. Many on Monday, reacted to the news including SNAP, the Survivors Network for Those Abused by Priests.
In a statement, entitled “Pope resigns without ever apologizing to Milwaukee’s Deaf victims from St. John’s school,” John Pilmaier, SNAP Wisconsin Director said: “It is difficult today, with the announcement that Pope Benedict XVI is retiring this month, not to think of the many victim/survivors of sexual abuse from St. John’s School for the Deaf.”
According to SNAP, it was Benedict, as Cardinal Ratzinger in his previous post running the powerful Doctrine for the Congregation of the Faith CDF), who was in charge of the fate of the notorious Fr. Lawrence Murphy.
Murphy, Ratzinger knew, had sexually assaulted at least 200 children at the boarding school in Milwaukee. Ratzinger ordered that Murphy be left in ministry, unpunished and unprosecuted, undetected to the public, and remain a priest, with all the rights, honors, and power which the church grants only to ordained clerics, right up until his death.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - Deaf Staten Island victim of Hurricane Sandy says pleas go unheeded. When police with megaphones rolled through Carol Lazorisak’s Oakwood Beach neighborhood in the hours before the hurricane thrust ashore, she did not hear their announcement about evacuation help.
In the days after the surge ripped her Tarlton Street home off its foundation, filled it with water to a depth of 5 feet and tossed her shed nearly a block away, she joined the thousands of other dazed victims at Miller Field in New Dorp, seeking some answers and a measure of comfort.
But for Ms. Lazorisak, who has been Deaf since birth, walking through the bustling relief center was like being in a movie on silent. There were no signs providing information for the Deaf or directing people to translation services. She left feeling more isolated than ever.
“I am extremely frustrated because of the lack of communication, the lack of help, the lack of information. I was left lost and in the dark for the first two weeks after Sandy destroyed my home,” said Ms. Lazorisak, as her friend Marybeth Imsho translated from American Sign Language a service she has provided during virtually every face-to-face meeting with FEMA or city agencies, and at the borough president’s town hall meeting last month where no interpreter was provided for nearly a dozen Deaf audience members. “My home is going to be demolished by the city in the next week and I need information.” Read more: http://www.silive.com/eastshore/index.ssf/2012/12/deaf_staten_island_victim_of_h.html
Carol Lazorisak's Oakwood Beach home was destroyed by Hurricane Sandy. Adding to her frustration is the fact that adequate interpreter services from FEMA, the city and at public meetings relating to the disaster have not been made available, says Ms. Lazorisak, who has been Deaf since birth. ARLINGTON, VA. (WUSA) - We're learning about a disturbing sexual assault that took place in Arlington over the weekend.
The victim's disability created an unusual challenge for investigators.
Police say the victim in this case is a woman in her 20s who is Deaf and does not know American Sign Language. So investigators had to write down their questions for the traumatized woman and wait for her to write out her answers.
"She was dropped off by a cab at the Rosslyn Metro station, where she went underground to catch a Metro back to her residence in Alexandria," said Dustin Sternbeck, spokesman for the Arlington County Police.
In the early hours of last Saturday morning, the victim was returning to Virginia after a night out in District of Columbia.
"Upon learning that the Metro wasn't going to arrive in a short amount of time, she resurfaced to street level, attempted to find a cab again drive her back to her residence, and was grabbed and pulled into an alley by the suspect," said Sternbeck.

MILWAUKEE, WI - Movie about Catholic priest sex abuse scandal makes US premiere in Milwaukee. The controversy over the Catholic priest sex abuse scandal hits the big screen. Five Deaf men who led the first known public protest against clerical sex abuse in the United States.
Not only that, but Friday night is the US premiere of the film. It's called Mea Maxima Culpa: Silence In The House Of God -- a documentary focused on the sexual assaults within the church right here in Milwaukee. With bright lights, ticket lines, even a red carpet, the event had all the trimmings of a blockbuster premiere.
The film brought a message to the big screen. Telling the story of hundreds of young men abused by Father Lawrence Murphy, the headmaster at St. John's School for the Deaf in St. Francis. Showing the film to many of the victims themselves, filmmaker Alex Gibney uses the documentary to expose their pain -- and the cover-up by the Catholic Church... Syracuse, NY. - Former Onondaga County Family Court judge Bryan R. Hedges is accused of sexually abusing his 5-year-old Deaf niece 40 years ago. Ellen Cantwell Warner, the suspected victim in this case, spoke out at Vera House in Syracuse Thursday.
"An experience like this would be difficult for any child growing up, but it is especially difficult for a Deaf child, whose communication is limited. He preyed on my deafness," says Warner. "40 years of trauma have finally come to an end. I am at peace. The truth has set me free. I feel like a butterfly that has finally emerged."... Video: 'The Language in Space' is a play written by Herbert Gantschacher.
The scene "The Cochlea Implantation" (performed by the Deaf actors Horst Dittrich as the father and Reinhard Grobbauer as the son and Werner Mössler as the doctor" shows a cochlea implantation real ironically. It is a real question, the cochlea implantation could be helpful.
On the way of an operation the return to the "hearing world" is technically possible. But the way of operation is not helpful for the Deaf society.
What happens to operated Deaf people, which are living now with a cochlea implantation but without a better result of hearing? They are not integrated in the "hearing world" and the Deaf world, they damaged psychological and physical. In such a situation the cochlea implantation destroys Deaf society.

Video: Deaf student bullied at Alexander Graham Bell school.
CHICAGO (CBS) - A young Deaf boy says first he was bullied by some classmates and then a teacher allegedly joined in. The third-grader attends Alexander Graham Bell School in Chicago, where he says he’s been repeatedly hit and verbally abused by students.
Is Alexander Graham Bell school recommendation for the hearing-impaired children?
Alexander Graham Bell School is NOT recommended for the Deaf/HoH children, because of Alexander Graham Bell is the Father of Audism! What is Audism? Find more info: Audism. The Deaf community believed he should attend to the school for the Deaf or have a better school service with sign language interpreters instead AG Bell school. He seems to have trouble with speaking by verbally. We don't understand why his mother didn't think about taking him to Deaf school. We highly recommend that he should learn sign language for better communication.
The hearing parents sometimes barrier communication with hearing-impaired children like it is lack of communication, abuse, and barrier. The hearing-impaired are mostly frustration, angry, temper and crying with their hearing parents. Including oral school for the Deaf, also barrier and bullying the hearing-impaired children with the communication. Unfortunately, hearing parents misuse their hearing-impaired children in the mental institutions like as AG Bell Schools for wrong purpose. They expect that the hearing-impaired children may be brainwashed. Although physical abuse is prohibited but still, this term brings back these memories that many are scarred with the term oralism. As seen on video in ASL: Dear AG Bell
AG Bell has been pushing such as forced to the hearing-impaired children for oral and cochlear implants. Even AG Bell uses Doctors and Audiologists to put cochlear implants on hearing-impaired and teaching them how to speak by Oral Methods. The general of communities discovered many lies about Alexander Graham Bell's life to destroy Deaf culture because of oralism movement.
What is oralism movement? Oralism is way different from spoken English. Oralism tends to be the only approach and it bans from ASL. Spoken English is not against for one to know both languages since birth. It has no biased meaning - it is just a language. Signed English doesn't ban a hearing-impaired child from using ASL nor force those who cannot hear enough to use it. Some people who think the world of oralism are ignorant. Using the word, oralism, still did not change to a positive concept just we would never change the concept of slavery.
Would we want to still practice slavery? No! Unfortuantely, it is still happening in some parts of the world. Slavery will always be negative just like oralism therefore there is no way to change the meaning. They should now that there were horrors associated to oralism. Although it is history but today the practice, the principle and the philosophy still discriminate against ASL.
The term should be changed to oracy since it involves the use of switching to both languages where they have the options to use, spoken or signed where there is a more flexibility and compatibility. The hearing parents of the Deaf children will LIKLEY to be a victim. The hearing parents really need a wake-up call and stop abuse to the hearing-impaired children which are victims of abused from the AG Bell schools as seen on youtube.
LiesAGBellToldMyParents...Many Deaf Survivors of the Alexander Graham Bell Association... We will never forget.
