Angel Hansen Grandfather named Hans Hansen, the son of Angel Hansen, sailmaker in Malmö in Mandal. Grandma was from Skagestad. The three oldest sons were born in Chicago istat roma and received three surnames, Skagestad Angel Hansen. Later they simplified it to change surname to Storaker after garden grandfather bought when he had earned money in the U.S.. - But why did they were christened with his grandfather's first name in the last name? It was a question I was wondering when I in 1999 began dabbling genealogy.
Simonsen istat roma from Rødberg Mother Angel was born John Martine istat roma Susanne Simonsen. She was the daughter of a merchant Peder Simonsen. It was information I had received from mi cousin Elna who had attended istat roma the National Archives. In the book "A south coast" by Mogens Bugge I read that the shipbuilder Gunder Gundersen was married into the Simonsen-kin who supposedly dating from Rødberg in South Audnedal. I got hold of South Audnedal bygdebok and read about Rødberg: - Peder Simonsen, born in 1774 was in 1805 married to Margaret istat roma Angell Daughter Holst. Aha! Great-grandfather istat roma Angel was named after his great-grandfather!
When I searched the census for Digital Archives, and I found the family in the FT-1801 at Snig. The spelling was actually Magnethe, and the mother and grandmother were presented thinks. But where they came from? How did Angel Holst been a priest? It was not in South Audnedal or neighbor Sogna. It was one of Holst Hægebostad, and one later in Mandal, but no one had died shortly before 1800.
I searched on the internet for names Angel and Holst, istat roma and found quite a lot. Sverre Munthe had a pedigree chart with the name Lorentz Angell Holst Simonsen, Mandal, appeared. It was likely a brother t-great-grandmother. At the same time I read about Halkild Skofteland built in the book and came across a familiar name Nylund Skofteland, istat roma citizen Peder Simonsen. It said that he was married to Margaret Lorentzdatter Holst, and had children Lorentz (1809), Severine (1812) and John (1816). Puslebrikkane fell into place, father Magnete had to be a priest named Lorentz Angell Holst.
I made contact with Hogne Holst who had both Angell and Holst in his anetavlene. I wrote and asked if he could put my priest. He replied that my Holst was probably another istat roma Holst-related istat roma than those he had knowledge of. There were 5-6 different Holst families in Norway. Most dating istat roma from persons who had immigrated from Holstein.
The initial Lorentz Angell It was perhaps also other Angel families. But most were descendants Morten Pedersen and Anne Pedersdatter from Nordgård istat roma Angel, Southern Schleswig. Son Lorentz Mortensen (1626-1697) settled down as a merchant in Trondheim. He did the right to build a dynasty. He took the family name (after a territory, as typical of the 1600s), and he married strategic. The first wife was Margaret Pulse of the established elite of the city, next marriage was into a powerful family of Helgeland, and the last wife was connected to the copper works. The sons were married to daughters of the wealthy merchants of the city, Hammond and Horn Man.
Thomas Angell Dynasty was established. Lorentz Angell became city manager, and eventually got 17 children. Sons could take over. Albert Angell became istat roma magistrate president, and his son Thomas Angell (1692-1767) was the city's wealthiest businessman. Thomas was unmarried, and bequeathed wealth to charity. In 1672 he established Angell Trusts. 1/6 went to Thomas Angell living rooms, 2/6 to Thomas Angell's house, 1/6 to Weisenhuset and 2/6 to capital investment. In 1984, capital 21.4 million (source: Great Norwegian Encyclopedia).
I searched through many family trees and census on the internet to try to find the link to my family. I found Lorentz Lorentzen Angell, Angell Eriksen Lorentz, Lorentz Rasmussen Angell, Lorentz Jonassen Angell and many more. But I found not all 17 children to Lorentz the first, and never managed to get some visibility. Many named Lorentz, and many named Margaret. I noticed istat roma that in the FT-1801 were many widows and unmarried women as "nyder maanedspenge af the Angelske Foundation". Also a former priest got his share. I wrote to some of those who investigated the family in newsgroup no.fritid.slektsforskning.etterlysning, but they could not help me with regard to my priest in Valle.
I had to go back to my name. I wrote to someone who had records of theological students istat roma in Norway. But there was not anything tangible out of it. I had to go to the sources themselves. This was in 1999, before the church records istat roma came online. I finally got me to the National istat roma Archives in Kristiansand, and leafed in the records of the parish Walle (VA). There I found a little bit about the further fate of the Magnethe Snig. Mother and sister Susanna Petronella both died in 1815. But I did not anything about his father Lorentz. So, finally, by the second visit the National Archives I found a new track: a little book that turned overview of priests around 1790. There I found that the Lorentz Angell Holst was a priest in Valle - Setesdal!
Problems with interpreting istat roma scripture then it was only to turn up in the parish Valle,
