Should I try a gluten-free diet?

Should I go gluten-free? Gluten is a protein used in wheat, barley and rye to form the bread. There is nothing to prove that cutting gluten out of your diet will help you lose weight!!!!!  Although  People with Celiac Disease can benefit from the elimination of gluten because it blocks absorption of nutrients. 1 percent of Americans have this and you can be tested if you are experiencing abdominal pain, bloating, gas, nausea, fatigue or persistent diarrhea.
For the high profile people bragging about their benefits from cutting gluten out of their diet it's because this tends to cut out foods like breads, muffins and pastries. If you just switch to "gluten-free" crackers, breads, cookies and muffins this could actually add on the lbs because these food contain higher fat and sugar content.   The reason why this is working for some people is because they are emphasizing fruits, veggies and quinoa (which I am a huge fan of!!). So again cutting the gluten might actually hurt you and you are better to focus on the whole grains.

If you want to lose weight and get your body right focus on fruits, veggies, whole grains, lean protein and healthy fat- Mediterranean style eating ( look in my earlier blog post to find Mediterranean style eating and focusing on healthy fats). Hope this helps!!
